The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1993, by decision of Governments of Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden. Replaced Nordic Road Safety Council -- Conseil nordique de la sécurité routière -- Nordiska Trafiksäkerhetsrådet (NTR) -- Nordisk Trafiksikkerheds Råd (NTR) -- Pohjoismaiden Liikenneturvallisuusneuvosto, set up 1971. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Coordinate and plan road safety activities in Nordic countries; observe developments in the field; work for similar Nordic road traffic legislation; promote information; investigate suitable Nordic coordination projects devoted to road safety and prepare adequate proposals to Governments.

Activities

Carries out: investigations on car safety belts, children's safety, safety in traffic of motor cyclists and mopedists, education and training, vehicle construction and performance; promotion of uniform Nordic road traffic legislation; technical and medical investigations of road accidents. Works on improving road accidents statistics. Conference: 'Nordic Safety Days' (every 2 years).
