12 Apr 1996, Suva (Fiji), at inaugural meeting, as Association of Pacific Islands Maritime Training Institutions and Maritime Authorities (APIMTIMA). Current title adopted, May 2003. Since 2009, includes activities of D-XM1629 - Pacific Women in Maritime Association (PacWIMA). Registered in accordance with the law of Fiji.
Be a united voice for the maritime sector in the Pacific; serve as a focal point for discussion of partnerships that promote a safe, secure, clean and sustainable maritime sector; establish a network of skilled resource people willing to provide advice and support to the sector; promote cooperation between maritime training institutions, authorities and the maritime sector in implementation of international uniform standards throughout the region.
