History

1 Mar 1957, by the E-XE3376 - United Nations Security Council (UNSC), as part of United Nations Peace-keeping Operations, within the framework of A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN), on coming into force of the General Assembly resolution 1001 (ES-1), Nov 1956, and following consultations with the Consultative Committee set up by that resolution. Created during the time of the Suez crisis - and known as the First United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF I) - ceased to exist Jun 1967. The Second United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF II), set up by the Security Council, 25 Oct 1973, in Sinai, cooperated with F-XE1048 - United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). Was also referred to in French as Forces spéciales d'urgence des Nations unies. Mandate expired 24 Jul 1979.
