History

Jan 1927, London (UK), as International Superphosphate Manufacturers' Association (ISMA); manufacturers of other fertilizers were admitted as ordinary members from 1962. Name changed to International Phosphate Industry Association, 14 Nov 1975. Rules amended, 1979, to admit nitrogen and potash producers as ordinary members (phosphate rock producers are also ordinary members). Subsequently changed title to International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) – Association internationale de l'industrie des fertilisants, May 1982. Previously also referred to as Association internationale de l'industrie des engrais – Asociación Internacional de la Industria de los Fertilizantes – Internationale Vereinigung der Superphosphat-Fabrikanten. Sulphur producers admitted as ordinary members in 1989. Registered in UK. Secretariat and offices in Paris (France).
