United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA)
Administration postale des Nations Unies (APNU)
Postverwaltung der Vereinten Nationen (UNPA)
Established when the General Assembly of the A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN) unanimously decided to establish UNPA in response to an idea first proposed by Argentina in 1947. The first postage stamps were issues on 24 Oct 1951 following an agreement with the Government of USA to issue stamps in US currency. Similar agreements were concluded with the Governments of Switzerland and Austria in 1969 and 1979 respectively.
Use UN stamps to reflect the work of the world organization; draw attention to significant world problems and serve as a reminder of the UNs commitment to its goals.
