History

History 16 Jul 1965, Reykjavik (Iceland), at 1st Congress, as a coordinating organ to interlink the various national Norden associations which had previously worked together informally. The latter were set up: 1919 in Denmark, Norway and Sweden; 1922 in Iceland; 1924 in Finland and the Faeroes; an associations was subsequently set up in Åland, 1970, and in Greenland, 1986. The Confederation was originally a Consultative Group of Nordic Cooperatives – Nordiska Kooperativa Samrådsgruppen. Joint platform adopted 1966; revised 1973 and 1997. Also previously referred to in English as: League of Norden Associations; Union of Nordic Associations; Federation of Norden Associations.

Aims

Develop and integrate Nordic cooperation within all sectors of society; expand cultural, social, political and economic contacts between Nordic peoples; initiate programmes of information on Nordic cooperation; increase knowledge of neighbouring countries within the region.
