History
2003, as one of the Regional Centres for Space Science and Technology Education Affiliated to the United Nations within the framework of E-XE0535 - Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) as part of UN Programme on Space Applications (PSA) within the framework of E-XJ7585 - United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), by the governments of Brazil and Mexico, in the light of recommendations of H-XF2785 - Global Action Plan for Environment and Development in the 21st Century (Agenda 21).
Aims
Develop skills and knowledge of university educators and of research and applications scientists through rigorous theory, research, applications, field exercises and pilot-projects in aspects of space science and technology able to enhance social and economic development in each country, specifically through strengthening remote sensing and geographical information system (GIS) capacities, meteorological satellite applications, satellite communications and global positioning systems and space and atmospheric sciences.
