Founded at 1st Balkan Conference.
Promote cooperation among all Balkan countries on environmental research projects and on formulating common environmental policies for the region; organize cooperation on current environmental protection problems in the region; integrate common efforts of scientists, specialists, educators and industrial enterprises for the environment and its sustainable development between the Balkan countries and the European Union and other countries; make suggestions and recommendations concerning environmental quality and safety to regulatory bodies in Balkan countries; develop programmes to reduce transboundary pollution and to protect Balkan rivers, lakes, seawater and soil from pollution by chemicals and other agents.
