The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Oct 1977, Buenos Aires (Argentina), when an Organizing Committee was set up; Academic Council constituted Mar 1978, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

Aims

Strengthen and modernize the analysis of international relations of the Latin American countries; contribute to the identification of Latin America's specific interests regarding the most relevant international issues and forums; promote the interdisciplinary study of economic, political, cultural and international factors involved in the handling of the foreign relations of latin American countries; promote the participation of the academic sector in the preparation of background material and data that could be of use in the formulation of the foreign strategy of the countries of the region; support the consolidation of a regional network of research and teaching centres with a sound capacity for the analysis of the foreign relations of Latin American countries; promote the establishment of academic ties among these institutions and research centres of other regions of the world interested in the study of international relations.

Activities

Joint studies with the participation of centres and/or researchers interested in various topics proposed by member centres. RIAL supports the implementation of these studies, each of which involves the formation of a working group, meetings and the contacts necessary for this group to define its framework of analysis and its plan of activities, to carry out specific studies, and discuss them at a seminar in order to publish the results later on. Combined with International Center for Education and Human Development (CINDE) and United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), to promote Latin American University.
