History

26 Feb 1976, following proposal of the Nigerian Government of 18 June 1975, under Article 8 of the Agreement establishing African Development, under which the Bank is authorized to establish or be entrusted with the administering and managing special funds which are consistent with its purposes and functions. African Development Bank Group (ADB Group), comprises African Development Bank (ADB) and African Development Fund (ADF). Started operations: 1977. Functions as a trust fund of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Aims

Assist economic development efforts and social progress of less developed and most seriously affected ADB member countries.

Activities

Provides loans bearing an interest rate of 4% and a repayment period of 25 years, including a 5-year grace period. As of end 1997, 58 approved loans totalled US$ 333,380,000 and cumulative disbursements amounted to US$ 218,280,000.
