Nov 1972, St Louis MO (USA), by representatives of H-XD3966 - European Cell Biology Organization (ECBO), and American and Japanese national societies, as successor to H-XH5223 - International Society of Cell Biology (ISCB), set up in Jul 1947, Stockholm (Sweden), at 6th International Congress of Experimental Cytology, itself replacing H-XH5222 - International Society for Experimental Cytology, formed in 1933.
Promote international cooperation and contribute to advancement of cell biology in all its branches; act as a coordinating body able to initiate special studies and encourage research in areas outside the normal scope of national societies, such as problems of scientific communication.
