1953

History

Established to meet requirements of H-XD0663 - European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). When H-XD0665 - European Community was established became a Directorate-General of E-XE2442 - European Commission (EC). Currently based in Luxembourg with a department in Brussels. Legal basis: Regulation (EC) No 223/2009 of F-XF0667 - European Parliament (EP) and E-XE3068 - Council of the European Union, 11 Mar 2009 on European statistics.

Aims

Provide high-quality statistics for Europe; collect, harmonize and disseminate statistical information on the European Union (EU) and the main countries with which EU maintains relations; together with national statistical institutes, harmonize statistics in order to obtain comparable data for EU member states.
