Dec 1972, as a joint body for D-XD5992 - West African College of Physicians (WACP) and F-XD0167 - West African College of Surgeons (WACS) (WACP and WACS are its Constituent Colleges). Originally an agency of H-XD4575 - West African Health Community (WAHC).
Supervise the promotion of, and control standards in professional postgraduate medical education in West Africa; accredit institutions for professional postgraduate medical education; assist in providing facilities for professional postgraduate medical education in disciplines or in participating countries where they do not already exist; arrange or sponsor periodic lectures by distinguished personalities; be a certifying body for professional postgraduate medical qualifications and set up appropriate examining bodies for this purpose; award diplomas of the Constituent Colleges.
