Established by the E-XE3376 - United Nations Security Council (UNSC), within, F-XF1000 - United Nations System, in the framework of the A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN).

Aims

Acting as part of UN Peacekeeping Operations, observe, to the extent possible, developments pertaining to the strict observance of the ceasefire of 17 Dec 1971 and report thereon to the Secretary-General.

Field mission manned by military observers and supported by Chief Administrative Officer and UN Field Service personnel; assisted by local staff; headed by Chief Military Observer appointed by and responsible to the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Headquarters: May-Oct - Srinagar (India); Nov-Apr - Rawalpindi (Pakistan). Liaison Office in Delhi (India). Field Stations (11): 7 in Pakistan (Bhimber - Domel - Gilgit - Kotli - Rawalakot - Sialkot - Skardu); 4 in India (Baramulla - Jammu - Poonch - Rajouri).
