Compare, pool and disseminate knowledge acquired by members in the exercise of their profession; examine and apply new methods of fire-fighting and operations entailing the mobilization of firefighting and rescue brigades; seek to lay down standards for equipment; study and promote measures of fire prevention and the prevention of panic; create public awareness of the economic, social and human role played by fire-fighting and rescue services both in peacetime and in war; define the position of the fire-fighting service and that of the professional officer in modern society; harmonize provisions governing training, recruitment and promotion of service personnel.
