1989, London (UK), as Memorial Fund for Disaster Relief (MFDR).

Raise money in memory of each victim of war, both military and civilian, in this century, so as to create a permanent global fund, the income from capital to be used for disaster relief.

Available with paid subscription only.

Conceived as a living memorial to the victims of war, to be their gift to those whose ordeal is yet to come, the Fund is developing a register recording the names and circumstances of death of all the people in whose memory donations are made. The Fund is not an operating agency. The income earned is normally committed to those front agencies best able to provide the necessary relief. The aim, where possible, is to target the root causes of disasters, not merely alleviate the symptoms. Furthermore, the Fund seeks to give aid in those disasters which are less well publicized. Currently organizing: WMF Balkans Appeal; 'Balkan Children's Rehabilitation Programme'; 'Pathfinders' coordinating rapid response search and rescue medical teams.
