International Federation of Mammalogists (IFM)
1974, as the Section of Theriology (Mammalogy) of the B-XB2698 - International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS). Statutes amended at 5th International Theriological Congress, Aug 1989, Rome (Italy). Previously also known under the title: IUBS Section of Mammalogy. New name and organizational structure adopted, 2006; still under the auspices of IUBS.
Promote international cooperation and understanding in the science of mammalogy (theriology); encourage collaboration in conservation of mammals, in research, in preservation of mammal collections, in computerization of collection data, in exchange of students, data and specimens, in promoting a stable and evolution based nomenclature, in issuing of collecting and specimen export permits, and in any activity that promotes knowledge and understanding of the Earth's mammalian fauna.
