Aims

Ensure a fair trial for persons accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity who are to be tried before international tribunals; organize a full, thorough and structured defence so as to bolster legitimacy of the judicial process established by the international community to prosecute such crimes; unite in a professional association the defence attorneys responsible for preparing and pleading of cases to be tried by international tribunals, in particular at the International Criminal Court (ICC); organize training and continuing education of attorneys pleading at such tribunals so as to develop their knowledge of criminal law; help establish uniform ethical standards and strive to guarantee the highest professional standards of members; share experience and knowledge derived from the adversarial system of justice with the international community; encourage communication among lawyers specializing in criminal law; assist in development of international criminal law and of international institutions such as the ICC.
