History

Founded 1934, when Herbert Armstrong began a radio ministry in the State of Oregon (USA) called 'Radio Church of God'. In 1947, incorporated the church in the State of California. In 1968, name changed to Worldwide Church of God (WCG). Offices moved to Pasadena CA (USA) in 1947 and to Glendora CA (USA) in 2006. During 1990s, evaluated some of the foundational and non-traditional doctrines. At that time moved to the center of the historic, orthodox Christian faith; no longer teaches doctrine that Great Britain and the United States of America descended from two of the lost tribes of Israel; currently teaches the Trinity, that God is one divine Being in three eternal, co-essential, yet distinct persons. Other doctrines have also been evaluated and modified in light of Scripture. As a result of rejecting or modifying many of the teachings of Herbert W Armstrong, the denomination experienced the loss of well over half its membership, most of whom became part of over 200 splinter groups (not listed). Current title adopted, 2009, with some nations continuing to use the old name.
