History

1981, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), within the framework of U-XF5181 - Trans-African Highway System, in cooperation with E-XE4174 - United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and with the assistance of H-XD3027 - Organization of African Unity (OAU), to administer the Trans East African Highway (TEAH) -- Route trans-est-africaine (RTEA), the Headquarters to be located in Nairobi (Kenya). Currently coordinated by H-XE1436 - Trans-African Highway Bureau, following new arrangement May 1991, Addis Ababa. Has been referred to as Trans-East African Highway Authority. As of 2001, no longer functions.

Aims

Plan and undertake a Cairo-Gaberone road which, in conjunction with the Trans-Sahara (Algiers-Gao-Arlit road), Trans-African (Mombasa-Lagos highway), Trans-Sahelian (Dakar-Massawa road), Trans-Central (Tripoli-Windhoek road), Coastal (Lagos-Nouakchott), will form, when complete, a network crossing 41 countries.
