The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


Jan 1974, under the auspices of United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). Together with Coordinating Committee of the Lagos-Tangier Axis, comprises the West African Sub-regional System of the Trans-African Highway System. Subsequently coordinated by Trans-African Highway Bureau. As of 2001, no longer functions.


Promote and coordinate planning, improvement, construction and maintenance of the highway linking Dakar (Senegal), to Ndjamena (Chad) and passing through the territories of the member States.

Recommends measures for the implementation of the Dakar-Ndjamena Highway Project. Mobilizes external financial and technical assistance. Reviews implementation of the Project. Makes recommendations concerning the construction and improvement of the routes and on the improvement of international traffic on the Highway relating to simplification and unification of customs rules and procedures governing temporary importation of private and commercial vehicles, goods and passenger traffic, the development of feeder roads and establishment of auxiliary services and facilities.
