The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

Aims

Support welfare and interests of individuals detained outside their country of residence, in order to facilitate their social reintegration.

Activities

Gathers information on the judicial systems and prison rules in foreign prisons; lobbies for the extensive use of non-custodial sanctions instead of imprisonment and for shorter prison sentences where appropriate; supports implementation of international standards governing the proper detention of persons and all efforts to ensure criminal justice policy, court and prison systems are humane; maintains a database to promote cooperation and exchange of information and experience between members and institutions.
