The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Founded 1993, by a small group of business persons, when registered in accordance with the law of Ghana. Also referred to as The Enterprise Network. As of 2003, ceased to exist.

Aims

As an organizational model for the African private sector, play a catalytic role in national and regional business environments; use strategic management tools to analyse the internal and external business environment; improve the business climate in member countries and promote cross-border trade and investment in West Africa by: improving dialogue between the state and the private sector; facilitating the creation of financial instruments adapted to the needs of private enterprises; improving the competitiveness of West African products; promoting national entrepreneurship.

Activities

'Advocacy initiatives' to improve the business climate included: participation in private sector committees and joint task forces with governments and in reform of legal and regulatory regimes, including revised investment codes, foreign exchange acts and business tax policy; strategic alliance with national parliaments in the area of business impact assessment law. national investment clubs and guarantee funds. 'Regional trade promotion' included: creation of joint ventures among members; protocols of agreement with regional banks to improve intra-bank relationships in the subregion. Identified common problems, formulated solutions and acted as regional pressure group with public authorities. Organized, co-organized and participated in exhibitions.
