as JRC Centre for Reference Materials and Chemical Reference Measurements, part of Joint Research Centre - Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (JRC-IRMM, Geel), following prioritization of scientific activities from 1997. Formerly part of Joint Research Centre (JRC) within the framework of European Commission (EC). As of 2006 ceased to exist.
Provide support to standardization and European Union directives, combat fraud and adulteration and support enforcement of environmental and health standards through: production of highest quality chemical, biological, clinical, industrial, environmental and nuclear certified reference materials and proficiency testing materials; storage, stability control and distribution of BCR and IRMM certified reference materials; development of analytical reference material for measuring elements (and their chemical forms), radionuclides and organic constituents.Available with paid subscription only.
Houses a multi-functional production laboratory, including chemical, biochemical and radiochemical laboratories with high-performance instrumentation. Responsible for about 500 certified reference materials and storage of about 500,000 samples.
