Founded 1971, Lourdes (France). Encouraged and confirmed by Paul VI in 1975 and by John-Paul II in 1981 and 1984. Charter and Constitution proposed by General Assembly, 26 Oct 1980, Lourdes (France), and adopted provisionally for a one-year period; amended and adopted by General Assembly, 1982, Wetherby (UK); further amendments adopted by General Assemblies: 1984, Rome (Italy); 1986, Santo Domingo (Dominican Rep); 1990, Edinburgh (UK); 1994, Warsaw (Poland); 1998, Québec (Canada); 2002, Rome; 2006, Madrid (Spain); 2008, Lourdes; 2013, Leeds (UK).


Promote, worldwide, the establishment of Christian communities (brotherhoods) 'Faith and Light' which provide deep links between persons with a mental handicap, their families and their friends; create brotherly links of support among these various communities, especially by means of regional, national, continental and international meetings and pilgrimages; favour the insertion of the communities and of those who constitute these communities within all human and Christian communities, while respecting each particular culture.
