History

5 Apr 1993, Harare (Zimbabwe), as a regional council of World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH). Registered in accordance with the law of Zambia. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Protect and advance among all people and nations the highest possible level of mental health; act as an advocate of measures to promote mental health and recommend appropriate plans for the progress of mental health projects and practices; promote collection and submission of pertinent information and recommendations relating to mental health.

Activities

Facilitates research and contributions in the field of mental health; coordinates efforts of member associate, government agencies, professional groups and international organizations in the advancement of mental health; provides information and advisory services to organizations dealing with mental health issues in the African Continent South of the Sahara; strengthens the existing National Mental Health Associations and facilitates the establishment of new ones where they do not exist. Regional Committee of Women Leaders for Mental Health Development. Organizes: regional congress on Mental Health (every 3 years); regional conferences (annually). Promotes national seminars. Celebrates 'World Mental Health Day', 10 October.
