The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1983, as Independent Commission on International Humanitarian Issues (ICIHI) -- Commission indépendante sur les questions humanitaires internationales, by Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan and Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan. Also referred to as International Committee for Aid to Humanitarian Organizations in Geneva. No recent activity reported since 1995.

Aims

Promote greater awareness of the human dimension in problems confronting the global community; stimulate public awareness of and governmental and United Nations action in humanitarian problems, which are beyond the scope of existing institutional mechanisms.

Activities

Conduct in-depth studies into problems especially in the fields of: natural and man-made disasters; vulnerable groups such as the homeless; armed conflicts. Then, after consulting a wide range of experts and officials, present reports to policy makers.
