The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1956, London (UK), following the work of International Tin Study Group, set up Apr 1947. Activities were governed by international agreement, embodied in the successive 5-year International Tin Agreement -- Accord international sur l'étain. The First Agreement (1956-1961) was succeeded by the Second (1961-1966), the Third (1966-1971), the Fourth (1971-1976), the Fifth (1976-1982) and the Sixth. This last agreement was negotiated at the United Nations Tin Conference, 1981, Geneva (Switzerland), came into force on 1 Jul 1982 and was extended for two years with effect from 1 Jul 1987. The Council was dissolved 31 Jul 1990.

Aims

Administer the provisions of the International Tin Agreement and supervise its operation; achieve a long-term balance between world production and consumption; prevent excessive fluctuations in the price of tin. In pursuance of the objectives of the Agreement, set floor and ceiling prices for tin, operate a buffer stock, and when necessary, regulate tin exports from producing members of the Agreement.

Structure

Council (meets at least 4 times a year), consisting of representatives of each participating country and IGO, selects an independent Executive Chairman and appoints Secretary and Buffer Stock Manager who are responsible to the Executive Chairman. Vice-Chairmen (2), elected annually, one from the producing members and one from the consuming members. Meetings closed.
