1967, by H-XD8955 - Conférence épiscopale régionale de l'Afrique de l'Ouest francophone (CERAO), as Catholic University of West Africa (CUWA) -- Université catholique de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (UCAO). Current title adopted in 1975. 1981, became an institute of H-XD9038 - Association of Episcopal Conferences of Anglophone West Africa (AECAWA). A theological institute of the Catholic Church in English-speaking Africa. Ceased to exist when AECAWA was dissolved, 2007.
Promote scientific analytical and critical contextual study of theology and related disciplines; train Church personnel in Christian theology studied against the socio-cultural background of Africa; train Church personnel in the communication of Christian theology; produce teachers for seminaries and other higher institutions of learning.
