History

1 May 1972, Baguio City (Philippines), during 2nd Agricultural College and University Seminar. Constitution adopted by 17 Asian institutions of higher learning in agriculture from 9 countries: Indonesia; Thailand; the Philippines; China; Malaysia; Korea Rep; South Vietnam; Turkey; Iran.

Aims

Advance the study, teaching and practice of agricultural studies and related sciences; enhance effectiveness of programmes in agricultural instruction, research and extension; formulate plans, programmes and policies on areas of mutual interest to member institutions; determine ways and means by which member institutions may be able to build strong linkages with institutions and agencies serving agriculture; exchange experiences among members as to the means by which they can contribute more effectively to the advancement of human welfare in Asia.

Structure

General Assembly. Governing Council (meeting every 2 years at the biennial convention), comprising the CEO of each member institution or their representative. Executive Board (meets annually), comprising President, 1st and 2nd Vice-Presidents, Immediate Past President, Executive Secretary/Treasurer and 2 board members. Permanent Secretariat located at College of Agriculture Dean's Office, University of the Philippines, Los Baños, (Philippines).
