1 Sep 1893, Chicago IL (USA), as Brotherhood of Boiler Makers and Iron Ship Builders of America, by merger of International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers and Iron Ship Builders, founded 1 Oct 1880, and a (US) national organization. Name changed, Mar 1906, to International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders and Helpers of America. Present name adopted, 1954, when merged with U-XJ4746 - International Brotherhood of Blacksmiths, Drop Forgers and Helpers. Absorbed U-XU1052 - United Cement, Lime and Gypsum Workers International Union (UCLG), 15 Mar 1984 and U-XN3173 - Stove, Furnace and Allied Appliance Workers International Union of North America, Oct 1994 and U-XG2094 - Metal Polishers, Buffers, Platers and Allied Workers International Union (MPBP), Oct 1996. Also referred to as Boilermakers Union.
