History

1990, within the framework of International Foundation for Dermatology (IFD).

Aims

Train medical officers in the diagnosis and management of dermatological, sexually transmitted and HIV diseases specifically in the context of Sub Saharan Africa; teach basic dermatology and dermatovenereology to local primary care workers; devise methods of improving skin health of local people.

Activities

All-purpose basic facility houses medical assistants and clinical officers from East, West, Central and Southern African countries enrolled in a 2-year training programme. Provides a comprehensive dermatovenereology service involving clinical services, teaching for all levels of health care workers and active involvement in research and development. Develops treatment methods which can be extended for use in other regions.
