Current name adopted, 1979. Current Statutes and Regulations adopted by 47th Congress, Dec 2019, Verceia (Italy).
Develop and control physical education in general and the practice of sports in particular among the deaf of the world; promote relations between countries practising sports for the deaf and initiate and then give guidance to the practice of these sports in countries where it is unknown; supervise the regular celebration of Deaflympics, World Championships and Regional Championships.
