Assist in promoting freedom of the press worldwide; support and aid all national and international action promoting free flow of ideas by word or image, and intervention against all measures which hinder or aim to prevent such a free flow; further the interests of the press circulation trade.

Advocacy/lobbying/activism; training/education; research/documentation; events/meetings. Intervenes directly or through national or international authorities when free international circulation of the press is held up or hindered. Engages in improvement of overall environment for member companies and press distribution in general in the following areas:

 • 'Freedom of the Press' - engages worldwide for free flow of information by word and image, in accordance with the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and with UNESCO Constitution;

 • 'Taxation' - based on the 1950 Agreement of UNESCO, Florence (Italy), intervenes against duties on press products and against taxation on reading materials;

 • 'Marketing' - promotes exchange of information and experience on sales promotion, profitability of press products in retail trade, retail classification, sales analysis, data quality and sales information;

 • 'Transportation' - maintains contact with forwarders to secure speedy and efficient transportation by land or air, to facilitate customs clearance and to obtain adequate freight rates;

 • 'New Technologies' - fosters exchange of information and experience on new methods of bundling, packing, processing unsold items, bar-coding etc;

 • 'European Union' - maintains contact with EU institutions to safeguard efficient press distribution systems guaranteeing a wide variety of publications and a sufficient density of sales points throughout the European Union.
