The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

23 Sep 1991, Brussels (Belgium), at Congress of European Respiratory Society (ERS). Registered in accordance with Canadian law, 1 Feb 1993. Ceased to exist, 31 Aug 2001.

Aims

In cooperation with existing organizations, promote and support asthma awareness and education programmes for people with asthma and their families and for health care providers; encourage sharing of members' resources and expertise in developing and implementing education programmes.

Activities

Organizes: annual meeting (at ALA/ATS International Conference on Lung Disease); International Lay Support Group Meetings; seminars; workshops; lecture visits. Co-sponsors/supports other events in the field, including: 'Latin American Project (LAP)' (with UNASMA, WHO, PAHO, national organizations); 'World Asthma Day'. Partners WHO in 'WHO/IAC Asthma Guidelines Implementation Project (WHO/IAC AGIP)', also referred to as 'AGIP', to assist (particularly developing countries) in setting up training programmes and networks to ensure implementation of improved asthma guidelines. Promotes and supports national and regional programmes to train paediatricians and general practitioners in asthma care.
