Develop geriatric medicine in members states of the EU as an independent speciality caring for all older people with age-related disease; support that geriatric services become available to all citizens of the EU; facilitate research and education; promote education and continuing professional development; represent the speciality of geriatric medicine in EU and national governments; liaise with other European bodies promoting the specialty in Europe; disseminate evidence-based guidelines for the most efficacious preventive and treatment strategies for older people in the EU.
