Established by the Committee on Commodity Problems of B-XB0971 - FAO, as Intergovernmental Group on Coconut and Coconut Products; terms of reference expanded to cover all oilseeds, oils and fats. First session Sep 1966. Revised rules adopted at 16th session, Mar 1982. An Intergovernmental Group (IGG) with Technical Secretariat the responsibility of FAO.
Aims
Provide a forum for study and consultation on economic aspects of production, processing, consumption, trade and marketing of oilseeds, oils, fats, oilcakes and meals, with particular attention to problems of developing countries; identify specific problems calling for short-term action and consider all measures which could contribute to solution of medium- and long-term problems; submit practical proposals for intergovernmental arrangements.

Session (irregular). Membership open to all FAO Member Nations and appointed observers from intergovernmental, non-governmental, academic and private sector organizations interested in production or consumption of, and trade in, oilseeds, ils and fats and their products. Interested-non-Member Nations that are Members of the United Nations, any of its specialized agencies or the International Atomic Energy Agency may be admitted to membership by the FAO Council.
