21 Jul 1970, New York NY (USA), as International Tape Association. In 1980 became International Tape/Disc Association, occasionally referred to as ITDA. Although subsequently again referred to under original title, the name International Association of Magnetic and Optical Media Manufacturers and Related Industries was adopted, 1990, for official purposes. In 1995 became ITA, International Recording Media Association. Name changed to International Recording Media Association (IRMA), 1 Jan 1999, to reflect representation of a range of recording media.
Advocate the growth and development of all recording media; serve as the industry forum for information exchange regarding global trends and innovations.
