1988

History

1988, with the title Association of Commercial Banks in Eastern and Southern Africa, as an institution of H-XF6602 - Preferential Trade Area for Eastern and Southern African States (PTA). Present name adopted when came within the wider framework of F-XF3162 - Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). Also referred to as COMESA Association of Commercial Banks (BAPTA) -- Association des banques commerciales du COMESA. Ceased to exist, 2002.

Aims

Act as a forum for the exchange of information on banking practices in the sub-region and serve as a forum for the discussion of common problems among members and between them and relevant organs of the Common Market; promote and strengthen links between banks in the sub-region; facilitate harmonization of training banking personnel and of banking practices; evolve means of contributing to the economic development and economic integration of the sub-region.
