History

Established Jun 1972, Stockholm (Sweden), within the framework of E-XE4161 - UNEP, at United Nations Conference on Human Environment. Restructured 1994, when became the joint responsibility of all relevant UN agencies and was organized through the 'UN System-wide Earthwatch Coordination Unit' within UNEP/DEWA. No activities reported since 2005.

Aims

Facilitate, harmonize and integrate observing, assessment and reporting activities across the UN system in order to provide environmental and appropriate socio-economic information for national and international decision-making on sustainable development and for warning of emerging problems requiring international action.
