Founded 12 May 1963, Neustadt (Germany FR) as International Society for Stereology (ISS). In 1979 took over the functions of H-XH3629 - International Society for Automatic Image Analysts. By-Laws updated 1 Jan 1983.
Promote research on theory, practice and results of stereology, as an inter-disciplinary science to characterize three-dimensional structures from their sections, using image analysis to help clarify micro-morphometrical problems, particularly problems of quantitative microscopy and mathematical morphology.
