The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).


1971, as an international association of national research councils. Became a Standing Committee of European Science Foundation (ESF) in 1975. Ceased to exist when replaced by Scientific Review Group on Bio-medical Sciences.


Promote interactions between the basic biomedical and health research communities; develop European strategies; integrate promising young scientists in European collaborations; give scientific and policy advice to European intergovernmental bodies; stimulate collaboration in priority research areas.

Exploratory workshops on numerous topics of emerging fields in biomedical research. Strategic and policy advice to intergovernmental bodies and individual member organizations of ESF on such issues as bioethics, good reviewing practice, etc.
