The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Founded 1993, by IPAS, AVSC (now EngenderHealth), Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics (JHPIEGO), Pathfinder International and International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

Aims

Inform the reproductive health community about complications related to miscarriage and incomplete abortion; promote Postabortion Care (PAC) as an effective strategy for addressing this global problem.

Activities

Works through voluntary Task Forces (4): Essential Supplies; Misoprostol for PAC; Service Delivery; Youth-Friendly PAC. Promotes coordination and information sharing on the issue of postabortion care; advocates at the international level for policy changes and increased resources for PAC services and the prevention of unsafe abortion; informs the broader reproductive health community about health issues related to unsafe abortion and strategies to confront this through PAC, and to promote PAC as an effective strategy for addressing this global problem, especially in countries where abortion is highly restricted.
