Established within the framework of E-XE1118 - Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).
Carry out basic oceanographic studies and theorization plan long-term programmes for protection, preservation and promotion of marine ecosystems as well as optimum utilization of them; develop research-based decision making and decision taking in different marine and oceanographic fields; promote scientific developments in different oceanographic fields taking the foresight approach; develop interactions between related national and international organizations for raising the role of marine resources in economical, social, political and cultural developments.
