1 Sep 1994, when the MSG Trade Agreement entered into force. Known also as Spearhead Group.
Under the agreement, trade among the three countries is conducted free of customs duties in respect of tuna from the Solomon Islands, tea from Papua New Guinea and beef from Vanuatu.Available with paid subscription only.
The scope of cooperation is to be expanded into new area, in particular: to collaborate closely in developing a single regional framework of law and practices to regulate the forestry industry; to waive visa restrictions for all categories of visitors from the three countries; to examine, through a study, the possibility of merging the individual national airlines; to examine options for the holding of an annual Melanesian Arts Festival to promote cultural cooperation and awareness among member States as well as tourism.
