History
1994, within E-XE4468 - CGIAR System Organization (CGIAR). Dormant for several years, but since 2012 in the process of being revived.
Aims
Strengthen existing linkages and partnerships with national research programmes, other international centres, advanced institutions and the private sector working in the region to develop and deploy more efficient, productive and sustainable technologies for the diverse rice-wheat production systems of the Indo-Gangetic Plains so as to produce more food at less cost and improve livelihoods of those involved with agriculture and as a consequence to decrease poverty.

Regional Steering Committee (RSC), consisting of the Chief Executives of the NARS and the Convening Center, promotes integration of national and regional efforts; RSC may invite resource persons to participate at meetings if required. Regional Technical Coordination Committee (RTCC) consists of one senior representative (Coordinator) from each of the four NARS, one representative each of IRRI, CIMMYT, IIMI, ICRISAT, CIP, and Cornell University staff assigned to rice-wheat activities in the region and the Facilitator; RTCC may invite other resource persons to participate.
