The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

1971-03-04 Nouakchott Mauritania

History

4 Mar 1971, Nouakchott (Mauritania), on signing of an Agreement; commenced activities 1 Jan 1972. Took over activities of Union des postes et télécommunications des Etats de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (UPTEAO), set up 1959, Dakar (Senegal), which came under the Convention of 18 Jan 1962, Cotonou (Benin); this Convention now having been replaced by the 1971 Agreement.

Structure

No permanent secretariat; coordinated and executed by member states in rotation, each of which in turn nominates Secretary General. Members (representatives of member states' postal and telecommunications administrations) meet annually under the presidency of the host country.
