The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1987, Vézelay (France), by a group of prominent French-speakers and with the assistance of Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation for the Progress of Humankind (FPH). Ceased to exist. Alliance for Responsible and Sustainable Societies is a successor.

Aims

Undertake research into planetary risks arising from the impact of human activities on the atmosphere and from development of biotechnology and the civilian nuclear industry; marshall spiritual, scientific, economic and political forces from all geographic origins to develop a new set of references, values and rules to overcome new challenges.

Activities

Declaration published Oct 1987. 'Appeal for the World States-General' launched Mar 1988. Study sessions - 'Journées de Vézelay' - held 1989 to 1991. Declaration of June 1990 reaffirmed values and views and lead the way for 'Preparatory Convention for the World States-General', 27-30 Sep 1993, Les Vaux de Cernay (France), which developed Alliance for a Responsible and United World. A founding event for the creation of Etats généraux de la Planète, a means for the world's peoples to define a common perspective for the 21st century, is proposed for 1999.
