History
21-28 Aug 1960, Stockholm (Sweden), at 5th International Congress of Genealogy and Heraldry, according to decision of 3rd Congress of Madrid (Spain), 1955. Established as a permanent international autonomous body at 6th International Congress, 14 Sep 1962, Edinburgh (UK). Outwardly inactive during 1970s while reviewing criteria for acceptance of orders, following criticism that it ignored the different historical development of honours systems in different countries. Restructured as a strictly academic body, Nov 1999. Nov 2000, London (UK), re-examined all chivalric matter. Jan 1996.
Aims
Study, report on, promote exchange of ideas regarding, and provide advice on legal and historic matters connected with assessing the validity of Orders of Chivalry and of bodies granting honours, distinction or awards, irrespective of culture.
