The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

1996

History

1996, by E-XE2442 - European Commission (EC), as a pilot project within the framework of F-XF2147 - European Union (EU). Original title: European Volunteer Service -- Service volontaire européen -- Europäischen Freiwilligendienstes. Also abbreviated as European Voluntary Service. Full programme 'European Action Programme R44', building on the pilot action, established 1998 with participation of the European Commission and national agencies of participating countries. Replaced, 1 Jan 2000, by H-XE4365 - Youth in Action Programme.

Aims

Provide a new kind of intercultural learning experience for young people, encouraging their social and occupational integration; assist development of local communities; interest young people, in particular the disadvantaged, in undertaking voluntary service.

European Commission is responsible for multi-annual programme and 'National Structures'. Structure for Operational Support (SOS) - office in Brussels (Belgium) supporting national agencies and projects.
